Fellow Friday: Alumni Spotlight ft: Lynn Whitney, Leaders of Color Memphis

Lynn Whitney is a native Memphian that believes in positively impacting our community by educating and elevating individuals on financial literacy and entrepreneurship. Previously being in the banking industry for over ten years, she was able to manage accounts for prominent community figures such as Grammy Award winners, NBA players, community leaders, and many more. During her journey, she has been able to speak with over 25,000 students and adults about financial literacy and assist over 700 individuals in starting their business or non-profit organizations. Lynn has had the opportunity to see hands on what the need of the individuals in our community is… and that is: HOPE. She founded “Financially Crowned Queen” a nonprofit organization that educates the youth and young adults of financial literacy and entrepreneurship while also connecting them to resources and opportunities that will assist them in the future.After quitting her job in 2018, she created her own financial literacy and entrepreneurship curriculum that is currently being taught in local middle and high schools in the Mid-South to also provide certifications to students that complete the program. In addition to this, she is thePrincipal owner of Lynn Whitney Consulting Firm LLC. It is a business and political consulting firm that assists small business owners and nonprofit organizations with public relations, marketing, structure, grant writing, and branding. She has also served as the Campaign Manager and consultant for a number of Democratic Candidates such as Councilman JB Smiley Jr. of Memphis, Beto O'Rourke in Texas, and many other local and municipal campaigns. Lynn has been given a variety of awards and certifications such as the Women’s Entrepreneurship Certification, Life Coaching Certification, the Best in Black Award, National Financial Educator Award, and many others while receiving her licensing and certifications in her profession. She is one that is true to changing the lives of our youth one penny at a time.

Leanna currently leads legislative and community development initiatives as Chief of Staff at the New York State Assembly, and previously served in the Office of the Brooklyn Borough President. Before she worked in government, Leanna was a teacher, working with students in special education and mentoring other educators. Her commitment to education equity, community-building, and equitable policies exemplifies what Leaders of Color are all about.
